1987 Glen Moray 25 Year Portwood Finished Single Malt Scotch
Nose: When nosed the first impression is a whisky which is rich, sweet and complex. Robust oak aromas are beautifully laced with subtle wine notes. Liquorice and mint also appear to give a beautiful balance. Beyond the initial aromas, wine and fruits come to the fore. Redcurrants and brambles mingle with light oak giving this vintage Glen Moray a refined and distinguished nose.
Taste: The taste is incredibly rich and smooth. An initial toffee apple sweetness makes way for an intense rush of spice. This taste explosion is then followed with lingering wine and toasted oak elements. A sophisticated taste which brings together the attributes of the ex Bourbon casks and Port pipes in which this whisky has matured for 25 years. Rich vanilla overlaid with wine tones makes for a heavenly combination.
Finish: The finish is long and lingering. The astonishing balance of the whisky ensure that all the desirable flavour elements can be enjoyed long after the last sip has been taken. Sweetness returns in the form of dates and figs, coating the taste buds in a luxurious manner. This is a whisky that delivers tastes on many levels from start to finish.
