
There are only three remaining distilleries that are active in this region- Glengyle, Glen Scotia, and Springbank. Scotches from this region have a heavy sea influence and one can detect the salt and brine as well as the peat that’s used in the whisky production here.
Scotch style is often informed by the region where it's produced. There are six generally recognized scotch production regions-
Lowland,
Highland,
Speyside,
Campbeltown,
Island and
Islay.
