Single Malt Scotch, by definition, is produced at a single distillery in Scotland using only water and malted barley distilled in pot stills. Despite this process’s simplicity, the range of flavors and styles Scotch whisky comes in is staggering. From viscous to feathery, and floral to peaty, a person could get lost in the myriad Scotches we offer.
A Scotch whisky exudes a level of sophistication. It can complement a fine cigar or be slowly enjoyed on its own, perhaps over ice. While the most famous Scottish spirit doesn’t enjoy the same popularity as vodka or tequila, it does offer a wealth of complexities and flavor to its loyal drinkers.
Fruit and vanilla aromas come to the fore as some coconut emerges. There is a delicate peatiness in the background. The palate builds nicely with plenty of fruitiness and rich sweet grassy notes. The finish brings a little spice into play.">
Robin Bignall, Kilchoman Production Manager; "Having spent its full maturation period in fresh Sauternes casks the whisky has inevitably taken on the textured white age influence associated with Sauternes casks however it remains balanced with an intriguing mix of maritime peat smoke, sweetness and citrus vibrancy."">
This limited edition bottling is drawn from a single first fill ex-Bourbon cask of unrivalled distinction. Hand-picked by Ace Spirits and Pulteney Distillery Manager Malcolm Waring and matured at the distillery since 2004, this exceptional whisky embodies the richness and charisma of its coastal home. It is little wonder that Old Pulteney is known as 'The Maritime Malt'.">
Nose: Unreduced, a quiet nose, not hugely assertive, yet quite maritime. Fresh ship’s varnish. Faint nose prickle. Spicy, briny, with distant smoke.
Body: Smooth and firm in body.
Palate: At bottled strength, a gentle start, immediately building in intensity. Slow and sweet, then kicks in peppery and hot, with significant balancing bitterness and salt, and a little smoke.
Finish: Long, warming, slightly bitter and very drying, with a little smokiness.
"Comes across initially to me as reserved, perhaps even elegant for a Talisker. Soothing too, with an oily texture. Quite fruity (orange, tangerine, apricot), perhaps even floral, with a delicate pastry sweetness. Then the more traditional Talisker notes kick in -- brine, seaweed, warming pepper -- repeated in the finish. A high-quality Talisker; albeit a bit reserved at times. I love the oily, viscous texture." -John Hansell, Whisky Advocate Spring 2010">
You’ll really taste the effects of that white oak, beautifully complemented by sweet pear, tropical pineapple, ripe banana and citric sparkle. This is a cask-strength single malt that represents the skill of our team and the tradition of The Glenlivet. And unlike most modern whiskies, this one is non-chill filtered, so it’s very richly textured. It’s an expression that will appeal to the intrepid whisky lover.">
And receive a free Macallan Ice Ball Machine.... As the exceptional single malt against which all others are judged, The Macallan deserves an equally exceptional serve. The signature Ice Ball Machine delivers the ultimate way to serve The Macallan on ice. In addition to its aesthetic panache, the ice ball
melts at a slower rate than a standard ice cube, diluting the liquid more gradually and creating a more consistent dram.
The Macallan has unveiled its sixth Master of Photography release, part of a limited edition series which showcases the mastery and art of both photography and whisky making. This edition marks a change in creative direction, with the master of visual ambiguity, Steven Klein, capturing and distilling a single moment in time through film and imagery. Klein's vision is enriched by custom
barware tools created by the most innovative trio in the world of cuisine, the Roca brothers of El Celler de Can Roca in Spain and ultimately, shaped through his own eyes and alluringly dark and glamorous style.
A WHISKY OF STANDOUT QUALITY
To portray this distinctive art piece, The Macallan Master Whisky Maker, Bob Dalgarno, has created a whisky of exceptional quality. It reveals a very specific and unusual character and flavor, itself capturing a moment in time, mirroring Bob Dalgarno's own interpretation of Steven Klein's work.
Inspired by the past, and uncharacteristic for The Macallan, peated notes represent the smokiness of the industrial setting of Klein's film. Some of the rare Macallan whiskies of that era were indeed peated in profile. The whisky also represents The Macallan's first ever use of casks previously used for Rioja wine, which provides flavors of sweet berries and spices, along with an unusual pinkish
red color, again reflective of the artist's imagery. The result, a whisky with sweetness and vibrancy unseen before in any Macallan.
COLOR: Red Mahogany
NOSE: Sweet berries to the fore, tempered with hints of chalk and light vanilla. Dried fruits mingle with mature oak and caramelized ginger. Citrus orange rounds out with a wisp of smoke.
PALATE: Sweet spice lingers, then opens up to brief and subtle smokiness. Dark chocolate combines with orange zest, whilst resinous oak is soft and textured.
FINISH: Medium to long. Soft, rich fruit ending in wood smoke.
